Berkshire Public Health Cold Weather Plan

The Berkshire Public Health Cold Weather Plan (CWP) provides the strategic overview for emergency preparedness, response and recovery in cold weather across the system. This document is supported by the borough’s winter service plan 2016/17.

Keeping warm in winter

More people get ill in winter and the number of deaths rises. There is a direct link between cold weather and the higher death rate, especially among older people and others in at-risk groups. Remember - winter needn't be dangerous if you take the right steps.

If there is anyone you know who might be at risk, for example, an older person living on their own, make sure they know what to do to stay warm and are well stocked with food and medications. You can find winter health advice on NHS Choices. If you are worried about your health or that of somebody you know, ring NHS 111.

Keep warm and stay well - there are also some practical tips that you can take to help keep warm and stay well this winter on the met office website, as well as a list of useful links.
