COVID19 : resident and business update

We will continue to keep residents and businesses updated about our community response hub, waste collections, and much more via our website and social media.

More information

Stafferton Way Household Waste and Recycling Centre

Stafferton Way Household Waste and Recycling Site is now open, following a temporary closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak, to give residents the chance to dispose of waste that cannot be safely stored at home.

  • The health of residents and staff is always the highest priority, so please only make a trip if you are unable to store your additional waste at home.
  • Our waste crews are able to accept one flattened cardboard box and one box/bag of recycling in addition to your recycling bin on your recycling collection day. If you have more than this, you can dispose of it at Stafferton Way tip.
  • You will be expected to observe the social distancing measures.
  • In order to reduce overcrowding and enable safe distancing, we ask that you only visit the tip once on your allocated days. The table below gives full details of when and how you can visit.

In the event that the queues are too large, the site may have to close temporarily to deal with the demand.

Things to remember when visiting the Stafferton Way site:

  • Staff are unable to help you move waste from your vehicle.
  • Cars and vans with a valid van permit are now allowed on the site. We are still not allowing trailers on site.
  • There will be limits to the number of vehicles allowed on site to allow for social distancing. There may be delays accessing the site and possible queues of waiting vehicles.
  • In line with Public Health England guidance, residents who are vulnerable, or who are showing symptoms which may indicate coronavirus, should not visit household recycling centres.
  • We are now accepting the full range of materials including asbestos, plasterboard, rubble and white goods on site.

The site will be open from 8am-8pm, Monday to Sunday. Residents should only visit on a set day depending on which ward they live in. See below for details.

If you don't know your ward, please check the Know your neighbourhood map.

Expanded access - two days per week for each ward

We have expanded access to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre so that residents of each ward are able to visit on two days of the week. The site is open from 8am to 8pm each day and residents are asked not to arrive before 8am to avoid queues before the site opens.

Please place your Advantage Card and driving licence or another proof of address on your dashboard for crews to see. NHS workers and care workers can attend on any day providing they bring their pass as proof of identification.
