5. Local history

Are you interested in where you live or researching your family tree?

Ever wondered why Peascod street in Windsor has that name? Or when Ascot Races first started? Or when the Nicholsons Centre in Maidenhead was first built?

We now offer a weekly evening drop-in service for local history enquiries between 5pm-7pm at libraries across the borough.

Our drop-in service is available between February-April 2020 on these dates :

Maidenhead library (Nicholsons room, 1st floor)

  • Wednesdays : 5pm-7pm : 12 and 26 February, 11 and 25 March and 22 April.

Windsor library (1st floor)

  • Tuesdays : 5pm-7pm : 4 February, 3 and 17 March and 28 April.

Ascot library

  • Thursdays : 5pm-7pm : 13 and 27 February, 19 March and 30 April.

Each week the team will share our local studies collection and offer new insights into the history of our borough.

The local studies team will be available to deal with your enquiries and help with your research. Pop in with your questions and share your knowledge on local history in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
