Oaks Leisure Centre
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is looking into proposals for a new leisure centre in the south of the borough.
The proposed site on the Charters School campus is currently occupied by sports courts adjoining the existing school drop off area on Charters Road.
The new centre would be built to provide new facilities for residents to use during the day, complementing those already at Charters Leisure Centre, which will remain open, as well as additional, more modern facilities for pupils at Charters School. This would involve a multi-million pound investment from the Royal Borough.
The new Oaks Leisure Centre could include:
- A six-lane, 25m swimming pool.
- A 60-station gym.
- A dance studio.
- A sports hall with eight badminton courts.
- 100 additional car parking spaces.
The existing Charters Leisure Centre would remain in operation offering gym, sports hall and squash facilities to its current programme during and following the build.
We are currently gathering views from residents and pupils and staff at the school on the proposed design and facilities.
There will be opportunities to view and comment on the design during the summer in local shopping centres and library to help us develop the design. Full details to be announced in due course. You can also let us know your thoughts on the proposals by contacting us on [email protected] or if you have any questions you can also call us on 01628 685807.
Once we have gathered views from residents and the school outline designs will be developed further so we can submit a planning application, subject to funding approval, in early 2019.
