1. The Royal Borough Cycle Map
Our cycle map grades every road in the borough on its traffic conditions and the degree of skill and experience needed to cycle on them. This grading is linked to levels of cycling competence in the National Cycle Training Standard. The map has been developed in partnership with local cyclists, drawing on their experience and local knowledge.
The map shows routes along quiet roads, as well as dedicated cycle routes, helping to cater for a wider range of cycling trips. Dark green routes are lightly trafficked with low speeds and are suitable for novice cyclists. Light green roads are a little busier and may have slightly higher vehicle speeds. Yellow and orange roads have higher vehicle speeds and traffic flows with significant numbers of lorries - these are suitable for more confident, experienced cyclists. The few red roads require the highest level of skill and experience and should be avoided by cyclists if at all possible.
