From September 2017, students between 16 and 25 with a Statement or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will only be eligible for free home to school transport assistance if they can meet the following criteria:

  • They are 16 to 24 years old,
  • They attend the nearest school, college or other institution for education or training,
  • They have a special educational need, disability or mobility issue that means that they cannot reasonably be expected to walk or take public transport,

  • They are a continuing student; that is they are over 16 and started their course before September 2017.

Please refer the to the Home to School Transport Policy for the school year you want transport to start, and the Home to School Transport Code of Conduct for further information before applying.  For further information on transport options and possible sources of support for students over 16, please see our Post 16 Transport Policy Supporting Statement.

Please Note - applications received after 1 August may not be assessed before the start of the new academic year in September.

  • Transport will only be given to the nearest school/college offering their chosen course and only if it's beyond three miles from the home address of the student,
  • You can only apply if you are a borough resident,
  • If the student is not eligible for free home to school/college transport you may be able to purchase a seat on a council contracted school bus; please see the Pay for Transport page for further information.

From September 2017, students between 19 and 25 with a statement or EHCP will only be eligible for free home to school or college transport assistance if they can meet the following three criteria:

  • They attend a school or college offering the course being followed, are taking an apprenticeship or are in part-time education or training when employed, self employed or volunteering,

Information we will need from you:

  • Student and parent/guardian contact details,
  • School/college which the student will be attending,
