Shortlist announced for Maidenhead Golf Club development partner

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has revealed its shortlist of five developers who could have the chance to create new homes and facilities as part of the Maidenhead Golf Club development.

The shortlisted developers are:

  • Cala Homes – joint bid with Home Group
  • Countryside – joint bid with London & Quadrant
  • Crest Nicholson
  • Redrow Homes
  • Taylor Wimpey

The project to create 2,000 new homes as well as a new primary and secondary school, and health and community facilities on the golf course site will be worth hundreds of millions of pounds.

Thirty percent of the new homes on the 132-acre site will be affordable as part of the council’s commitment to building a borough for everyone.

Only 60 percent of the council-owned land will be developed, leaving green spaces and ancient coppice woodland for everyone to enjoy.

This significant project is a key part of the council’s ambition to transform Maidenhead and provide residents with the homes and modern facilities they need.

Cllr Jack Rankin, cabinet member for economic development, property and deputy for finance, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand housing and community facilities to be used for generations to come.

“These will be homes our children and grandchildren will be able to buy, taking advantage of our commitment to prioritise housing for people who have a connection to the borough.

“Working from this shortlist we will identify which developer is best placed to deliver opportunities for existing and future residents.”

A new primary and secondary school and other facilities including shops, a primary healthcare facility and sports facilities are ear-marked for the development.

Councillors voted to approve the emerging masterplan for the golf course in October 2017.

It is expected a final decision on which developer will be selected will be made in July 2018.

The 2,000 new homes will be within walking distance of the town centre and close to the train station through which the new Elizabeth line (Crossrail) will run from 2019.

Cllr David Evans, cabinet member for Maidenhead regeneration and Maidenhead (inc. school improvement), said: “Alongside our four joint venture sites this is one of the key developments in Maidenhead’s regeneration.

“We are taking action now to ensure we provide a range of housing options to support our current and future residents while building a fantastic new community with great assets everyone can enjoy.”
