Royal wedding visitors encouraged to book parking

Visitors and well-wishers planning to drive to Windsor to enjoy the royal wedding and catch a glimpse of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle are encouraged to book ahead to avoid missing out.

The council has a 6,000 space car park available at the Review Ground, just off the Long Walk, but tickets are being sold on a first come first served basis.

Crowds of over 100,000 are expected to flock to Windsor on Saturday 19 May to enjoy the celebrations, which will include the carriage procession route through the town centre, viewing areas with large screens and facilities, live entertainment from local groups and royal decorations throughout the town.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and Windsor, said: “We can’t wait to welcome visitors from across the world for the royal wedding, and show them how Windsorians throw a royal party.

“We expect there to be a large number of people wanting to view the procession and catch a glimpse of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle and to make sure no one misses out, we’re urging people who plan to drive to reserve a parking space now.

“We are expecting it to take a little longer than normal to get into town, but by carefully planning ahead, with a whole range of partners we hope to minimise disruption and make it as easy as possible for visitors to get in place for the big moment.

“Most our town centre car parks are inside the road closure area and once our spaces at the Review Ground are gone, they’re gone. There will also be additional parking at Windsor Racecourse and extra trains put on by GWR and South Western Railway. But however you plan to get here, your safest bet is to book ahead.

“The earlier you arrive on the day the more of Windsor’s world-famous atmosphere you can soak up.”

The majority of town centre car parks will be inside the road closure area, which is due to come into effect from as early as 6am on Saturday 19 May. Many of those car parks may also already be full or in other use on the wedding day. More details on road closures can be found here.

The Review Ground car park can be accessed from the A332 (Sheet Street Road) which is outside the road closure area. Those coming in from the Old Windsor direction need to bear in mind the A308 Albert Road will be closed from 10pm on Friday 18 May and therefore there will be no access to Windsor or the car park at the Review Ground from that direction on the day of the wedding.

Those coming from the M25, Staines or Old Windsor will need take the signed diversion route from the Runnymede roundabout along the A30, towards Egham.

Tickets are £30 each and must be pre-booked. Spaces will be approximately a 15 - 20 minute walk away from the nearest spectator areas on the Long Walk (but this could be slightly longer in crowded conditions). Provision will be made for visitors with Blue Badge permits.
