Royal wedding road closures update

Published: Tuesday, 8th May 2018

Residents and businesses in Windsor are being given advance warning of further road closures in the town centre to facilitate royal wedding preparations.

In addition to the previously advertised closures on Friday 18 May and Saturday 19 May there will be road closures around the procession route starting at 9am on Thursday 17 May. All roads are planned to reopen by 2pm.

No members of the royal family or wider wedding party will be present during these preparations.

Some waste and recycling collections in Windsor will also take place earlier than usual on Thursday 17 May and residents are encouraged to put their bins out on Wednesday night if they have a Thursday collection and live in Windsor.

The series of road closures will come into effect between 9am and 2pm to cover the procession route and some surrounding streets. While not all roads will be closed for the whole duration residents and businesses are advised to take these closures into account and plan alternative routes if required.

Parking suspensions around the procession route will also be put in place from 12.01am on Thursday 17 May until after the evening of Saturday 19 May and residents with permits to use these streets will be contacted shortly with alternative parking.

The parking suspensions will be on Thames Street, High Street, Sheet Street, Kings Road and Park Street.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and Windsor, said: “As the countdown continues for the royal wedding we are looking forward to welcoming visitors to our wonderful town to enjoy the big day.

“There will not be anything for visitors to see during the preparations but we want to give residents and businesses advance warning of these further road closures on Thursday 17 May between 9am and 2pm to allow them to plan ahead.

“We are also arranging for waste and recycling collections on Thursday 17 May to take place earlier in the morning so if you live in Windsor and normally have your bins collected on a Thursday we ask you to put your bin out on Wednesday night and, if possible, bring it back in the morning after collection.”
