Cllr Samantha Rayner screws in gold painted bolt

A special final gold painted bolt has been screwed into place by Cllr Samantha Rayner at Braywick Leisure Centre as works on the frame were completed.

The installation of the final bolt means that work can now begin on the rest of the structure, with half of the roof over the sports hall already completed.

The next stage is to complete the roof over the whole structure, along with installing internal floors and staircases over the next month.

The learner pool is also being tested for water tightness, and the external walls and glazing will be next once these steps are complete.

Cllr Samantha Rayner, cabinet member for culture and communities, said: “It was brilliant to put in the final bolt and mark the completion of this crucial stage of the build.

“Being up in the cherry picker gave me a great view of the centre so far, and it’s really exciting to see everything progressing.”

Braywick Leisure Centre is set to officially open on 5 September 2020, and will include a 10-lane swimming pool, a 200-station gym, large sports hall and improved accessibility for disabled users and sports teams.
