Old Windsor Library reopened following extension and refurbishment

Published: Wednesday, 9th October 2019

Old Windsor Library has reopened after a new extension and refurbishment.

The space has been totally transformed with a new ‘pod’ counter, toilet, self-service kiosk and a bright and airy colour scheme. The addition of an illuminated story wall in the children’s area has also given young readers a quiet and cosy space to read in – just right for losing yourself in a good book.

These considered changes have opened up the space entirely, providing more room for book displays and library events. The introduction of the self-service kiosk will also allow staff to spend more time with the customers who want to talk about books or who need help with in-depth enquiries.

Cllr Samantha Rayner, Deputy leader of council and lead member for Windsor, said: “This extension and refurbishment of Old Windsor Library means that our residents now have a local library to be proud of. I hope that these changes will mean that many more residents will come along and enjoy the library and that it inspires new readers both young and old.”

Alongside the opening, children’s author Steven Butler came along to talk to 30 year 5 pupils from St Peter’s School, Old Windsor. Steven has written over nine books for children including his new book ‘Dog Diaries: Curse of the Mystery Mutt’, co-written with international bestseller, James Patterson.

Steven said: “ I am delighted to been part of the Old Windsor Library re-opening and to have had a chance to talk to the children from St Peter’s school about their favourite books. Losing yourself in a book is one of the best ways to stave off childhood boredom and the newly refurbished library in Old Windsor provides the perfect spot for local children (and adults!) to do just that.”

The refurbishment of Old Windsor Library follows other makeovers at Cookham Library and Eton Library. Find out more about our local libraries here.
